This year, Team Aeriallight represented robo4you for the first time ever, at the Junior Botball Challenge Global Finals in China 2024. The competition was held at the Beijing National Speed Skating Arena in Beijing, China and was a great success for the team. Aeriallight emerged victorious in the Aerial Junior category, securing first place. Overall, the event saw participation from 4,500 competitors and 500 teams, with Aeriallight standing out in the “Aerial” category. Teams from China, the USA, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Austria, Hong Kong, and Macau took part in the competition.
Sightseeing
After the team, consisting of students Melanie Tauber and Markus Stastny, along with mentors Sebastian Rohrer and Alexander Lampalzer, arrived in Beijing, they had a day to explore the city. They visited iconic landmarks such as Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Olympic Village, giving them an opportunity to experience Chinese culture and get to know the city of Beijing better.
Competition
The competition took place over the following days at the Beijing National Speed Skating Arena, a massive indoor venue that provided enough space for the 500 teams and 4,500 participants. The tournament featured several categories, with Aeriallight competing in the Aerial category. In this event, teams were required to program a drone to autonomously detect specific landing zones, fly to them, and land within a designated boundary. The landing platforms varied for each attempt, meaning teams had to adapt to the changing target zones. Aeriallight successfully navigated these challenges and clinched first place, narrowly beating a Chinese team by just 10 points.
We congratulate Team Aeriallight on this fantastic achievement and look forward to seeing them compete in future tournaments!
